Buying A French Bulldog Puppy

The French Bulldog is a good companion dog, but needs a very consistent owner. It’s suitable for a family with children, but remember that you have to  instruct the children properly on how to handle the dog.

Buying a French Bulldog is not that difficult. Buying a healthy French Bulldog won’t be easy.Look carefully where you buy the dog. At www.marktplaats.nl  are a lot of dogs for sale, but there are a lot of ‘wrong breeders’, who breed dogs in order to earn as much money as possible. The animals often live in very miserable conditions. There are also many puppies from Eastern Europe. Some breeders buy them from a Polish or Hungarian breeder and put them together with their own female which has puppies of her own. They are being sold for a lot of money to unsuspecting buyers. The real mother dogs are languishing in cold, filthy cages in Eastern Europe and are almost constantly pregnant. Often slightly older pups are also offered by so-called owners who can no longer care for them due to circumstances. Don’t be fooled, these are often pups from Eastern Europe.

Besides the fact that it’s awful that animals are being treated badly,  the puppies are often ill of will be ill. Many pups develop one or more allergies or have all kinds of diseases such as epilepsy, respiratory problems, heart or back and neck problems. These are conditions that also occur in the Dutch French Bulldog population but by careful selection of breeding animals by breeders who know what they are doing and not simply increase, these diseases can be prevented. Therefore, for example a pedigree is so important. It gives breeders information on the background of the dog. The pedigree is not what makes a good puppy ‘expensive’; it only costs about € 100 per pup. Some people are looking for “puppies from a private person ‘or’ pups from a litter at home.” Strange expression, because my puppies also live in my house and many other responsible breeders really don’t put their puppies in the shed.

If you don’t know much about it, buy your dog with an FCI pedigree of the ‘Raad van Beheer op Kynologisch Gebied in Nederland’ and most of all, have patience. Many people aren’t and they have to get their puppy as soon as possible. It takes time to get to know the breeder and to visit the puppy. A reputable breeder will not let you take the puppy home after just one visit eventhough if the puppies would have the right age (between 8-9 weeks) If you’ve visited the breeder and the puppy and if your instincts say it’s okay, sleep on it for a little bit more. It is an important decision that you (and the breeder) have to make and you have to be 100% certain.

Furthermore, it’s important that the breeder has had the parents medically screened, supported by X-rays and a certificate, in which is stated that the veterinarian has examined the dogs on certain diseases and  are approved.

There is also a website  where you can find the backyard breeders and puppies you shouldn’t buy. If a breeder says he or she is an acknowledged French Bulldog breeder, that says basically nothing. Just a bunch of crap.

Once you’ve found a breeder you like, don’t send an email with just one question: “how much is it? ” Then chances are you will never get a reply. Most breeders do not put their prices on their website. I myself decided be open about the price of my puppies.  Under the button ‘info pups’ you can find information on the price.

For an explanation of the price, click  here

You will always get an answer from me if you briefly introduce yourself, why you chose the French Bulldog and so on. If I don’t have any puppies available, I could refer you to other breeders.
